24 Hours

How long will I feel this good?

It feels like it never lasts, yet with each day, that is 24 hours with the that feeling of ‘will something change and cause a relapse?’

24 hours in a day,

A day that could show a change in behaviours, mood, distress levels, impulsivity…

24 hours full of choices,

Choices that could both have a positive or negative impact on my recovery,

24 hours doesn’t sound long but times by 7 and thats a week of choosing to build my future,

To stay in recovery,

Times that to add on a month,

Every minute turning into an hour,

Each hour counting towards a life that was once unwanted,

One that I tried to eliminate,

One I wished would stop and not exist anymore,

Yet, Here I am!

I haven’t come this far to only come this far!

I’m not done fighting.

Each minute, turning into 24 hours, days making up a week, into months and eventually this day, this distress and mental torment will be just another time where I chose to keep going!

24 hours doesn’t seem like much,

But I can withstand any storm that is ahead of me, because I’ve survived and lived through my mental illness to this point,

Relapse after relapse,

Crises; one after the other,

And it all comes back to a day at a time,

24 hours,

ONE DAY ONE STEP!
